Nvidia and its CEO Jensen Huang have been in the news a lot lately.

Gamers haven’t been too kind to the big tech company, with backlash flooding the comments section of Nvidia’s DLSS 5 demo video. In response, CEO Jensen Huang countered during a press Q&A at this year’s GPU Technology Conference, saying gamers are “completely wrong” about the backlash. In a later interview with Mad Money’s Jim Cramer, Huang doubled down and defended an open-source autonomous AI called OpenClaw, calling it “definitely the next ChatGPT.”

Huang returned to everyone’s tech chronicles to make another bold statement during an appearance on Lex Friedman’s podcast. And as expected, this suggests an advanced stage of AI that could even do its job and run an entire multi-trillion dollar company.

Huang believes artificial general intelligence is finally here

When Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang was asked when AGI (artificial general intelligence) might arrive, he didn’t hesitate: “I think it’s now. I think we’ve achieved AGI.”

Simply put, AGI is artificial intelligence that can match or even exceed human intelligence in a wide range of cognitive tasks. It’s not just about answering questions or producing text; we are talking about systems that can learn, reason, and apply knowledge just like humans do.

Huang suggested that this shift could manifest itself in unexpected ways, pointing to the possibility of a breakthrough app or digital identity. “I wouldn’t be surprised if something social happens—like a digital influencer emerging or some app that suddenly becomes an overnight success,” he said.

However, he did not claim that AI is ready to completely replace human decision-making. Huang acknowledged that today’s AI agents are not capable of running a company like Nvidia on their own. “A lot of people use it for a couple of months and it kind of wears off,” he said. “There is now a zero percent chance that 100,000 agents will create NVIDIA.”

The position marks a departure from his previous schedule. At the New York Times DealBook Summit in 2023, Huang said AGI is still about five years away and will eventually be able to outperform humans on intelligence tests.

Bottom line

Huang is obviously betting on AI. With its latest support for OpenClaw, Nvidia’s introduction of DLSS 5, and Agentic AI’s overall adoption, it’s clear that it’s committed to further modernizing and developing this trending technology.

It is unknown whether AGI actually exists and whether it is capable of handling the high responsibilities that are usually assigned to humans. Seeing as Juan has backtracked a bit from his core statement about AGI, it seems like even he thinks we’re not quite there yet.
