Best choice

This streamlined outdoor dining table easily adapts to a variety of decor styles, is available in three sizes, and can be paired with your favorite dining chairs.

This woven rope chair with a powder-coated steel frame looks durable and comes in four earthy colors.

Why is this great

The table is well made. Our test table has been sitting under a covered porch in a high desert climate since late 2021 and has maintained its polished warm hue with only occasional cleaning. Other than a few light scratches on the surface, it still looks nearly new with no cracks or loose parts.

Assembly was easy. The Article Latta outdoor dining table has an acacia wood slatted top that rests on a light gray or dark gray powder-coated aluminum frame. Assembly took one person about 15 minutes (although you may need another person to unpack and turn it over).

The Manna chair, shown here in Grove Green, has armrests that slide easily under the Latta table and is easy to move around. Michael Murtaugh/NYT Wirecutter

The table can be decorated with our favorite chair. In our testing, we paired the table with Article’s Manna Outdoor Dining Chair, which was one of Article’s most popular non-plastic outdoor chairs at the time. We love the durable powder-coated steel frame, cushioned by matching braided polypropylene rope, which makes the seat more flexible than solid metal or plastic. Although the rope on the chairs we have from 2021 has faded a bit, it has not stretched or frayed since 2021.

Disadvantages, but not deal breakers

Our 2021 Latta tester hasn’t grayed and still has a warm, polished shine despite a lack of serious maintenance or resealing. Daniela Gorney/NYT Wirecutter

Wood tabletops require some maintenance in most climates. If you live in an area with a lot of rain or harsh winters, you will need to condition the wood periodically and perhaps even seal it annually, depending on how exposed your table is. If possible, cover it with a ventilated furniture cover when the forecast calls for rain and move the table indoors seasonally.

The equipment is exposed on the underside of the table. This can be a vulnerable spot for rust, especially in humid climates. We believe this is a design flaw that could easily be corrected by attaching the legs to the inside of the metal frame rather than the outside.

Manna chairs have a rigid, raised seat edge. Because the wicker seat drops slightly below the metal tube, the raised edge of the seat can dig into your thighs. One 5-foot-4 tester said the seat started bothering her after about an hour, but none of our taller testers seemed to mind.
