Apple may have accidentally revealed the name of its rumored low-cost MacBook. Earlier today, a European Union regulatory document appeared on Apple’s website with the designation “MacBook Neo” (model A3404).
Apple has since removed the link to the MacBook Neo, but not before MacRumors noticed it. The link to the document was below a list of MacBooks released in 2026, including the M5 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
The company unveiled the Mac Studio Display and Studio Display XDR this morning. New MacBook Pros with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips were also announced with price increases.
Apple has one more day to announce the ‘Neo’, with Wednesday (March 4) being demo day for the press to get their hands on the new devices in time.
What we know about the cheap MacBook
The Macbook Neo is rumored to be powered by the iPhone A18 Pro or A19 Pro chipset, which we’ve already claimed is powerful enough to run on a laptop.
Besides the chips, it should have a 12.9-inch display. Rumor has it that it will be available in vibrant variants such as yellow, green, blue and possibly pink.
According to MacRumors, the leaked Apple documents also revealed some potential features that we hadn’t seen in previous rumors. including two USB-C ports and MagSafe charging.
The Neo is also expected to have Wi-Fi 7, but not Apple’s own N1 chipset. Instead, it may have a MediaTek chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
In Apple’s laptop lineup, the Neo will sit below the MacBook Air, and current pricing rumors suggest it could be priced between $599 and $799. The recently announced iPhone 17e and iPad Air start at $599.
While we wait for Apple to actually announce the Neo, we’re keeping track of everything Apple debuts this week. Follow our Apple March event live blog for more information.
