The Maid has become one of the surprise hits of 2025, and 2026 for that matter. It has grossed an impressive $398 million since its release on December 19 last year, and a sequel is already in development. So chances are, if you’re reading this, you’ve already seen it.
But if you’re like me, that movie got lost in the year-end madness and then 28 Years Later: Temple of Bones hit theaters in January. TL;DR: I just missed it. Luckily, they sent me a Blu-ray of the film. So, I plugged it into my Panasonic to see if I could recommend this erotic thriller.
Amanda Seyfried steals the show in this erotic thriller

If you don’t know anything about The Maid, here’s a quick rundown. Sydney Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, who has just been hired as a maid for the wealthy Winchester family. However, she’s hiding a dark secret that she’s still not sure Nina Winchester (Amanda Seyfried) has figured out yet. Especially since Nina appears to be torturing her, leaving Andrew Winchester (Brandon Skelnar) to protect Millie from Nina’s torment.
Spoiler alert: this movie tears apart. It’s just amazing to watch. It’s exciting, doesn’t take itself too seriously and is very easy to follow, while still containing some shocking twists. I know I just gave you a summary of what The Maid is about, but I can also tell you that nobody in this film they are what they seem at first glance.
However, this thriller, as funny as it is on its own, lives and dies on Amanda Seyfried’s incredible performance. She grabs everyone’s attention every time she appears on screen. Sweeney and Sklenar are good in their roles, but Seyfried plays around them in a performance that highlights the surprising range of what seems like just another crazy woman in a psychological thriller.
Honestly, between this film and The Testament of Ann Lee, I’m ready to declare Seyfried the best actress of 2025.
Verdict: The Maid is fun to watch and a no-brainer to try out.
To be clear: I would pay more than a monthly Starz subscription to watch Maid. In hindsight, I would have paid full price to see it in the theater while it was in wide release.
But you don’t have to pay full price. Right now, you can try Starz on Prime Video for free for seven days. If you don’t already have Prime Video, you can try Amazon Prime free for 30 days now, which includes a Prime Video subscription. Once you have this, you will be able to activate your Starz free trial and stream Housekeeper for free.
If you don’t have Amazon Prime, a month of Starz will cost you just $4.99. It’s cheaper than renting a movie digitally from Amazon, and you’ll still be able to watch all the other movies and shows Starz has to offer. If you like Starz, the promotional price of $4.99 per month is good for the first three months, so don’t feel like you have to cancel your subscription right away.
