Near the end of March 2026, we asked our readers to choose their favorite movie of 2026 (so far), and more than 2,500 people responded. As we look at the flurry of highly anticipated summer blockbusters (Odyssey, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Spider-Man: New Day, to name a few), we figured now would be a good time to see what our readers loved watching most this year.

Just as we asked for your input at the inaugural Tom’s Guide Movie Awards last month, we recently launched a poll asking readers to choose their favorite major film they enjoyed seeing on the big screen. They had to choose from films like Send Help, 28 Years Later: Temple of the Bones and Disney and Pixar’s latest family adventure, Hoppers, but another film quickly emerged as the clear winner.

It was The Hail Mary Project, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s new take on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name. This phenomenal sci-fi adventure received 38% of the thousands of votes cast.

Of course, it’s no surprise that he rose to the occasion; Two weeks after its release, The Hail Mary Project overtook Hoppers as the year’s second-biggest film at the global box office (behind Chinese sports comedy Pegasus 3). It received rave reviews from critics and other moviegoers alike, and if you’ve seen it, you’ll understand why.

This delightful intergalactic adventure is currently my movie of the year, and judging by the comments on our original article, our readers agree! User John Setela said: “I read the book and then watched The Hail Mary Project. It’s one of the best sci-fi movies ever made! Don’t miss it!”

Nia DaCosta’s visceral horror sequel 28 Years Later: Temple of Bones snatched a slight lead and took second place with 11% of the vote. Of the film, Seth Roth said, “I really liked Temple of the Bones, it’s a shame it didn’t set everything on fire because I liked their weird new take on zombies and kind of weird storytelling.”

After this, a tough battle began for third place: each of the remaining eight films received 5–8% of the remaining votes. Chris Hemsworth’s crime thriller Crime 101 (8% of the vote) took the final spot on the podium at the last second, beating Sam Raimi’s darkly funny thriller Send Help (8% of the vote) by less than 10 votes.

The Hoppers finished in fifth place. only ahead of Emerald Fennell’s divisive Wuthering Heights (both with 6% of the vote), while Goat and Reminders of Him (also both with 6% of the vote) came in seventh and eighth.

At the bottom of the list is Scream 7. only ahead of Mark Fischbach’s independent sci-fi horror film Iron Lungs. Both received 5% of the votes, but the latter film, Ghostface, received 139 votes to Iron Lungs’ 134, meaning the latter film finished our list in 10th place.

We enjoyed seeing your responses and hope you enjoyed your thoughts. even if your best film didn’t work out enough come out on top. At the very least, you might be able to find a couple of recommendations worth taking advantage of before blockbuster season arrives.

We’ll be doing more “Have Your Mind” polls and articles in the future (in fact, we just published one asking “What’s your first Apple device?”), so stay tuned for our next reader poll!
